As you know, all the money collected by the school will be divided between the Adopt A Native Elder program and the Children of Ethiopia Education Fund. Our school set a goal of $30 for each of the 220 students - you have helped my daughters surpass their individual goal by over one thousand percent, and together they raised over ten percent of the entire school's goal!
To encourage participation and help the kids (3-6 years old) get a better understanding of the Fun Run, I went to Kennedy and Macy's classrooms to talk about the basics of philanthropy and fundraising. I gave them each some play money and shared five projects they could choose to support: the Food Bank, No More Homeless Pets, the Nature Conservancy, the new African exhibit at Hogle Zoo, and AirMed. In my first talk, I made the mistake of allowing an option for the kids to decide to "keep" their money by putting it into a blank folder. Well, they took that option literally, and most (but not all) chose to not be philanthropic. Even with that confusion, the majority of Macy's class put their money towards the zoo, while Kennedy's class preferred AirMed (with no option to keep the money.) The presentation also included a bit about who the best prospects for the Fun Run might be and a simplified gift pyramid for the $30 goal.
Kennedy and Macy worked hard on these hand print creations to say thanks to all of their sponsors. We tried to deliver them all in person, but please check your mailbox if we missed you. I'm sure you are enjoying the design carefully selected for you by Kennedy! Here is the complete gallery.

Some of you also got a special letter to remind you of your pledge. All money is due to the school this Friday. We only have four more pledges to collect. I would love for the girls to have 100% fulfillment!
Thank you again for making this both an excellent learning opportunity and a rewarding experience for Kennedy and Macy!
All the best,
Katie
